O Come
All Ye Faithful
O come,
all ye faithful – joyful and triumphant, o come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold him, born the king of angels. O come, let us adore him. O come,
let us adore him. O come, let us adore him – Christ the Lord!
That’s a lot of “O Come” in one verse, isn’t it?
This carol is a call to those who love God to come. In fact, seven times we are asked to come!
This holiday season we are asked to come shop – because the
sales are tremendous. We are invited to
come celebrate – because the lights and sounds are spectacular. We are encouraged to come eat – because the
food is festive!
But this carol invites us to come “adore” him. To adore
someone is to love and respect this person deeply.
And we can show this in so many different ways, all of which he gladly
accepts.
So in whatever way suits you today, come and adore him –
Christ the Lord.
You can bend a knee, close your eyes, lift your hands, sing
aloud, or smile quietly as you think on his goodness.
Come.
