The Breath of Life

In Genesis 7 it reads ... of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died.
When God saw that the human beings he created were evil, he took the liberty that any creator of beauty has – to destroy it and start over.  However, Noah and his family were spared.
Everything else that God had breathed the breath of life into died – except the ones God saved on the ark.
We only keep breathing for one reason – and that is the mercy of God on our lives to enable us to breathe another day and enjoy life.
At any moment, if God wanted to, he could say no more – that’s it – because of our evil ways.  But wait…
We have Jesus, our savior, who paid the price for all of that evil.  And because of him we live. Because of him that breath of life we received will be eternally there, never to be snuffed out.

The story of Noah’s Ark is a good one if you haven’t read it in a while.  And realizing the sobering truth that every breath we breathe is a gift from God should make us want to live a life of righteousness before him, as we move, live and have our being in Him.
