I Peter 1: Now that you have purified yourselves
by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each
other, love one another deeply, from the heart.
Sincere, deep love – how does that differ from insincere,
shallow love?
The first part of this verse says “now that you have purified
yourselves by obeying the truth.”
In other words, when we come to Christ and experience
forgiveness for our own sins, we should then in turn forgive others, as Christ
forgave us.
Insincere, shallow love is the kind that walks away when
offenses occur, or when thoughts move in, and questions arise about those with
whom we serve.
But when offenses occur and questioning starts up, because of
the truth that we too are sinners, saved by grace, we then are able to obey
Jesus’ command to love others, as we love ourselves.
Let’s pray for sincere, deep love…from a heart that is clean.
