Fix. Tie. Bind. Sounds like the scene from one of the
chapters of 50 Shades of Grey,
right?
However, these verbs are also the
scene of a very different story.
In Deuteronomy 11 it says that His words
are to be “fixed” in our hearts and minds.
That means they are nailed in, immovable, and unshakeable. It then says His words are to be tied as
symbols on our hands. Maybe like a tattoo?
In other words, they are to be embedded into the part of our body that
gives. When we give, it must be all for
Him, about Him, and to Him. And thirdly,
it says to bind His words on our foreheads.
Like a headband, encircling the top of our body, His words will be the
first thing people see when they look at our face – front and center!
After the fixing, the tying, and the
binding, verse 19 says to teach. And it
further instructs that we talk about His words when we sit at home, walk down
the road, when we lie down, and when we get up.
In other words, HIS words are to be the
very center of our day (and night), our family, and even our physical bodies.
The best thing is the promise that follows us
when we do this: the Lord will literally drive out enemies that are larger and
stronger than we are!
Fix. Tie. Bind…and then Teach. Then sit back and watch…
Thank
you God for your Word – our lifeline.
