Vain Hope

December 31, 2012

Psalm 33 says “A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.”
I am not a horse person, but I’ve seen their great strength.  Even in the movies, horses are almost majestic as they run through a field or race on a track.  One even feels inspired when watching them move.
So what is your “horse?” Where do you place your vain hope?  Is it in a spouse? Your kids? A job?
I figure that everyone at some point in their life realizes that the one thing they thought would never fail them – does in fact fail them.  Everything in life is really insecure – it could be here today – gone tomorrow.  And things that start out strong eventually get old and weak.  These “things” in which we place our hope cannot deliver, nor save us – which is what we desperately need.
The one thing we CAN place our hope in is His unfailing love.  It’s strong from beginning to end.  It never weakens.  It never disappoints. And it always delivers…and saves.
