The Righteous

Psalm112 cont’d:
The righteous will be remembered forever. He will not fear evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is upheld, he will not fear, Until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.

These verses list the characteristics of the righteous.

Do you know why we will be remembered forever, if we walk uprightly with God? It’s because of what we read earlier.  Our offspring will reap the benefits of God’s righteousness in us.  And the next generation after that.

We will not fear bad or evil news. There has been plenty of that lately in the world, and if we dwell on that news, we won’t sleep at night.  But we don’t have to fear when we pray to the God of the universe for peace, for rest, and for salvation for all.

A steadfast heart doesn’t waver.  It doesn’t trust in the Lord today and forsake him tomorrow, because a steadfast heart is one that knows the love of God that never fails.

The heart of the righteous is upheld – it won’t be crushed or broken. Why?  Because it trusts in God to keep it safe and beating strong.  Relationships here on earth are fleeting and even at their best, they disappoint.  God never disappoints.

The righteous WILL look with satisfaction on our adversaries of fear and evil.  Fear and evil are our enemies and they were defeated at the cross.  We can live a life that looks them both in the eye and defies the very glare with which they appear to us in the wee hours of the morning, just before the light comes…

What a blessing His righteousness is in our lives….now and forever.
