Remember Abraham? In Romans we are reminded that he in hope
believed “against all hope.” In other
words, he had been given a promise of a son but yet he was very old and the
promise still had not been fufiilled. Here's
what it then says, “Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his
body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that
Sarah’s womb was also dead.” That’s
against all hope!
I also remember the story of The Hiding
Place, where two sisters were in a concentration camp together “against all
hope.” I’ll never forget the story of
their unwavering faith in their God.
I’m not sure I’ve ever encountered any
situation like Abraham, nor these sisters, and I honestly hope I never have
to. But there are many who see our
current state as a nation a lost hope. I
have friends who have lost hope in the answers to many of their prayers,
because they’re just tired and see nothing happening.Their faith has grown weak.
It’s in times like these, “against all hope,”
that we must have hope. Why? Because we
serve a God who brings life to the dead and calls into being things that are
not. That’s just who He is.
