Ask the Question

Psalm 42: Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God…

Have you ever talked to your soul?  That part of you that feels emotion?  I have.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do is talk to our soul and give it instruction.  When we are climbing a mountain and are almost to the top, we tell ourselves we can do it, and we take another step.  When we are about to burst out in a fit of anger, we are told to count to 10 and walk away, saving ourselves a bundle of grief.
It’s an effective measure to talk to our souls.
If you’re disturbed, for whatever reason, it causes your soul to be downcast.  It happens to all of us.  But it’s when we stay downcast that depression visits us and takes up residence, if we don’t move our hope from our circumstances….to Him.
What does that mean?
It means that there are things that will disturb us.  When we hear of atrocities that are taking place around the world, or even in our own backyard or family, we will most certainly be disturbed and downcast.
However, being downcast is not effective.  It’s not helpful.  And it’s actually very heavy and weighs us down.
When we talk to our soul and redirect it upward, we realize that though things look bleak, there is a God who is in control whether or not we see his hand at work, at this moment.
Feeling downcast?  Talk to your soul.  Put your hope in God.
