Colossians 3
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were
called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among
you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through
psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude
in your hearts.
It’s hard to be thankful when we are not at
peace, isn’t it? When chaos is all
around us, fear haunts us, and storms are raging, we don’t quite feel like
giving thanks. However, it’s in those
times that we need to acknowledge the peace of Christ in our hearts and let it
rule over our circumstances. And give thanks.
It’s also hard to have a grateful heart when
there’s not a song in our heart, isn’t it? When our hearts are heavy, our spirits are crushed, and our bodies are just
plain weak and tired, giving thanks isn’t really on our agenda. However, when we sing from deep inside where
His Spirit dwells, gratitude begins to rise.
If your situation is less than ideal this season,
try giving thanks to Jesus for his gifts to you and yours. Try singing a song of gratitude to him, if
it’s nothing more than a simple tune and lyrics like, “Thank you Lord for
loving me…”
And see if that peace doesn’t start to rule and
that richness start to surface….
