Colossians 2 cont’d:
Since
you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world,
do you submit to its rules…Such regulations indeed have an appearance of
wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they
lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
Did you know that any religion,
cult, or club that imposes their own set of rules that require you to follow a
list “or else” is not healthy or a wise choice for a Christian to choose!
When men/women join together
with a new “theory” about how to reach God, how to even be healthy, how to be
more in touch with the universe, and they make their members adhere to certain
rituals, this causes pride. This enables
these folks to become haughty and look down on those who are not like them.
None of that is what the Bible
and loving God is all about. We can beat
ourselves on our backs, rigidly read 10 verses a day, or even diligently work
out every part of our body, but these things do nothing to bring freedom to our
lives or to the lives of others. In
fact, adhering to rules alone brings about spiritual death.
In Christ are the treasures of
wisdom and knowledge (in the first part of this chapter) and these
include loving God and loving others.
It’s so simple, yet we make it
so complicated.
