Colossians 2 cont’d:
He
forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal
indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has
taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and
authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing
over them by the cross…
Once we come to Christ and accept him as Savior,
every accuser and every sin and every condemning force against us in this life
is canceled. Not just buried, but
canceled. If you try to resurrect them,
you won’t be able to because they are no more.
This is profound, because we can rest assured
that once we know Jesus, any thoughts of our past and things that might haunt
us or cause us to feel defeated are not thoughts from heaven. So you are free to dismiss them!
Jesus “disarmed” all of those who were firing
against us; therefore, they no longer have any authority or power over us to
conquer us.
If we can grasp this truth, that we are made
righteous in his sight by the blood of Jesus, we will free up a lot of wasted
thoughts, time, and energy that we spend feeling beaten down, discouraged, and
defeated. Nothing is further from the
truth.
It takes training, purposefully thinking the
truth, and perhaps time, but we can walk free from condemnation…into freedom…because
of the cross.
