Isaiah 43:1 says But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he
who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When our babies cry because they’re hurt, sick,
or just upset, we immediately take them in our arms and comfort them like good
parents do. We hold them close, we rub
their hurting spot, we speak words of love to them, and the crying
subsides…they wipe away their tears…and they’re back playing in no time at
all. We do that automatically, because
our kids belong to us, and when they hurt, we hurt.
How much more then…will our Lord…our Creator…the
one who formed us and breathed life into us…take us and comfort us too…when we
are fearful?
In fact, he calls us by name, because sometimes
we aren’t listening, we are running to and fro and frantic, and we don’t have
our ear turned into his voice.
But here he calls us.
But here he reminds us that we belong to him.
But here he tell us…
DO NOT FEAR.
