Sound Words

II Timothy 1 says Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.

Have you ever heard words being taught, instruction being given, or even scripture being used in ways that just don’t seem right?  I have.  That’s not sound teaching.  If we’re hearing words that are not laced with faith and love, grounded in the truth of God’s word, then they are not sound words.

However, when we hear sound teaching, teaching that resonates and changes our hearts to lean in more to Him and his love for us, we need to retain those words.

In fact, we need to guard those words and keep them close to our hearts, and in our  minds, daily.

God’s words are treasures.

He entrusts those treasures to us, when we sit and listen to sound teaching.

And when faith and love result from hearing those words, it’s up to us to respond.
