Jeremiah 9 says … but let the one who boasts
boast about this: that they have the understanding
to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and
righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.
We shared lots of verses about boasting a while
back, and here’s one that tells us something we can boast about – that we have
the understanding to know the Lord.
If we really, really know Him, we will believe
and know that he is kind, just and righteous.
We won’t think he’s mean when he doesn’t answer,
we won’t shake a fist at him when we hear of injustice around us, and we won’t
discard his holy work in our lives.
When we do those things we don’t get it, we don’t
realize, and we don’t understanding who He is, and that grieves his heart.
But what delights him is when we know who he
is. Isn’t it wonderful to be known by
someone, to have a friend who gets you, to be embraced by someone who realizes
your worth?
Ask for understanding, but not for understanding
of the why’s of life – but rather to understanding that He is the Lord and He
is good.
That understanding will sustain you throughout
all of life…
