Matthew 13:22 And the one on whom seed was sown among the
thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world
and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it
becomes unfruitful.
This is the parable of the seeds – how they fall on different
types of soil (different types of heart) and how they grow…or don’t grow.
This seed in this verse fell on thorny soil. And it did not grow. Why? Partly because of worry.
When we receive the word of God that he cares for us, loves
us, and will provide for us – that’s good seed.
It’s the truth.
But when we receive that word and water it with worry, it’s
like thorns that grow up around the truth and choke it until the word is not
fruitful in our lives.
The word of God has to be coupled with faith. And we have to choose purposefully to believe
it, even when we don’t feel like it, or see it before our eyes.
The worry of the world and all that’s in it (wealth that we
lust for and desire) is not fertilizer for the soul. In fact it’s a killer.
