Psalm 68:3 says this, “But may the
righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and
joyful.”
I’ve always been told that happiness and
joy are different. Happiness is
dependent upon our circumstances – if they’re good – we’re happy. However, joy
is something that resides with us always, sustains us, and is with us even when
things turn sour.
This verse says we can be happy AND
joyful. They seem to go hand in hand
here. Happy means to be delighted or
pleased. It does not mean we have to be
delighted that we’ve lost our job or that we’ve lost a friend. It does mean we can be delighted and pleased
that we belong to the One who cares and can heal and provide. Joy means to manifest an exultant happiness!
So once we’re happy or glad that someone
bigger than we are, is handling these circumstances we’re dealing with, the
reaction is to manifest in some way our happiness! In other words, choosing to be delighted and
pleased in your Maker causes a reaction of a shout, a song, or a leap!
That’s why in an earlier chapter it says
flocks and valleys shout for joy and sing.
They get it. They belong to their Creator and they’re extremely happy
about it!
Sing for joy today and be happy. You can do
both!
