The
prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
We’re
close to the end of Proverbs 10 – a comparison between the righteous and the
wicked, the foolish and the wise.
We
once panned for gold in a mine where they let visitors use a pan to discover
small flakes of gold in sand, taken from the earth. It was fun to pretend we were part of the
“gold rush” but the prospect of us finding anything of value was nil. It was all just for fun. That’s the life apart from God – always
panning for gold and coming up short.
However,
the prospect of living for God produces joy, and joy is something no man can
take from us, because it has eternal value. In
fact, it sustains us and is our strength.
