Isaiah 40 repeats what we read in yesterday’s
devotion: “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up
your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry
host one
by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and
mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
How long has it been since you looked up and
thought about God and his creative abilities?
At night, he “brings out the starry host one by one.”
Can you see God with hands raised, calling out
each star by name, and as they hear their name they appear and begin to shine?
Can you imagine how long that must take, and yet
how fast it must be, for God to conduct the march of the stars out across the
sky that is seen by the entire earth?
Can you realize with me that as he conducts this
appearance, because of who he is, he doesn’t allow one to go unnoticed, not one
to go missing, but makes sure that all stars end up in their place, to shine?
We need to ask ourselves these questions often,
because as we answer them, we will soon realize the care of our conductor over
the affairs of our lives, and how he places each day in order, each emotion in
check, and each one of our hearts in tune, so that we shine brightly when we
are put into place.
There is no equal to Him.
