Psalm 40 says, Blessed is
the one who trusts in the Lord…
Many, Lord my God, are
the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with
you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to
declare.
Being “blessed” does not
mean that we have thousands of dollars in the bank, perfect health, and friends
that worship the ground on which we walk.
The biblical definition
of “blessed” can be found in Matthew 5, where the Beatitudes are listed:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Are you sure you want to be blessed? It requires trusting His plans to work out
His will in our lives so that His kingdom is ours…and those with whom we dwell
on this earth.
