Deut 28:13 The Lord will make you the head and not the
tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the
commandments of the Lord your God, which I charge you today, to
observe them carefully,
Some might read this verse and take from it that they will be
successful, on the top not the bottom, and esteemed and not abased if they obey
the Lord.
However, to be the head and not the tail means to carry great
responsibility, to act wisely, to be in authority not lagging behind. There’s nothing boastful or self-centered
that occurs when we obey His commands.
It’s all about glorifying Him.
When we obey his commands, we will be above circumstances and not under
them, NOT above others and better than them.
Sometimes (myself included) we want God’s blessings and we
demand them, if we perform. We expect
him to exalt us.
It’s not about exalting us, it’s about exalting Him through
honor and obedience. And even when we
are the head and on top and not below, it’s to lead others to Him, not to show
them what we’ve done.
