Level Ground

Psalm 143 cont’d:

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

We have to be teachable and desire to do God’s will.  We have to trust that his will and ways are not like ours, and that his will and ways are better.  This is a hard thing to do when we see with our eyes only, and trust in only what we see.

It’s interesting to note here that the psalmist says “let your GOOD spirit lead me.”

It is necessary and beneficial to remind ourselves that God is good.  Sometimes we come to him, seek him, and ask him for things, accepting his answers and will in our lives with our heads hanging down, as if he’s a parent that has just said “no” for the 13th time because he is just too tired to deal with our constant pestering.

God isn’t like that.  He’s good, faithful, and loving – always.

The final part of this verse asks God to lead the psalmist on level ground.

There are days, weeks, and even years where we feel as though we’re walking up hills, climbing mountains, falling into pits, and being swept away by avalanches.  That kind of life makes one weary!

God is good.  He will teach us to love his will.  And he will place our feet on level ground.

Ask him. Then listen. And learn.
