Isaiah 35
The scorched land
will become a pool
And the thirsty ground springs of water;
In the haunt of jackals, its resting place,
Grass becomes reeds and rushes.
A highway will be there, a roadway,
And it will be called the Highway of Holiness.
The unclean will not travel on it,
But it will be for him who walks that way,
And fools will not wander on it.
No lion will be there,
Nor will any vicious beast go up on it;
These will not be found there.
But the redeemed will walk there,
And the thirsty ground springs of water;
In the haunt of jackals, its resting place,
Grass becomes reeds and rushes.
A highway will be there, a roadway,
And it will be called the Highway of Holiness.
The unclean will not travel on it,
But it will be for him who walks that way,
And fools will not wander on it.
No lion will be there,
Nor will any vicious beast go up on it;
These will not be found there.
But the redeemed will walk there,
Are you burned up, thirsty, feeling haunted by
your past? Unable to find a way out?
There’s this roadway called the “highway of
holiness.”
It’s travel lane ONLY for those who walk “that
way.”
It’s not for the unclean, fools, or for lions or
other vicious beasts.
It’s only for the redeemed (those who have been
washed in His blood)
This tells me that there is a path on which I can
walk where I am not constantly chased, beaten down, or made to feel shame
anymore.
And it’s a path where I’m safe from all those who
have been walking with me on the other path I’ve been taking (like discouragement, doubt, despair and despondency)
In fact, all of Isaiah 35 is a happy story. Read it.
A highway of holiness. Can you
imagine that? I feel like most of us use
it like those fast lanes on the highway, we want to get to the left and zoom
past all others, to arrive to our destination before them. However, it’s a highway like none other, and
it’s closed off to those who don’t follow Him.
It’s a highway where we walk. Did
you catch that?
The highway of holiness is a walk…daily…moment by moment…with
Him. And being next to him is the place
where no one and nothing can get to us to harm us.
That’s holiness.
