Joshua 6 cont’d - God
gave a directive to march around a secured city for six days. Now he says more…
Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of
the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the
priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the
trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will
collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.
Was there any power in the march, the blowing of
the trumpets, or the loud shout? In
other words, did that cause the wall of the city to come down?
The power came in the faith and the obedience of
a people who heard God to do what he said to do.
Has God ever told you something “crazy” to
do? Maybe he says to bake your boss a
cake, even though he’s the meanest guy on earth. Perhaps he whispers to plan a date for
your husband when he seems to care
less. Or what if he tells you to love
your enemies? (Oh wait, he has said that!)
I cannot imagine being part of this march around
the city, blowing trumpets and shouting.
But it sounds pretty cool
Do whatever he says to do, when victory is
promised. And then stand amazed.
