Have you ever read Ecclesiastes 8?
Near the beginning it says, “A person’s wisdom
brightens their face and changes its
hard appearance.” Near the end it says,
“So I commend the enjoyment of
life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat
and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their
toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.”
In between those verses it talks of how we don’t know the
future, we’re all going to die but don’t know when, and how the righteous and
the wicked suffer. Sounds depressing and
hopeless, right?
Just the opposite is what’s being stated.
If we have wisdom and realize who God is, how He’s in
control, and we can rest in that fact, we are able to face these uncertainties
with a bright countenance. We don’t have
to let life’s hardships make us bitter.
And if we learn to let go and enjoy life, the day we have
been given (today), then joy will be our companion (accompany us) every day
that we live.
I want that wisdom…and joy.
